Lemn Sissay
Poet, Playwright & Broadcaster
Lemn Sissay is a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)-nominated, award-winning writer and broadcaster. He has authored collections of poetry and plays, and his memoir My Name Is Why was a number one Sunday Times bestseller. He has been made an Honorary Doctor by various universities, and in 2019 he was awarded the PEN Pinter Prize. He received an Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2010 and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2021 for services to literature and charity. Lemn has taken part in television programmes such as BBC’s Live Lessons, curated poems for BBC Radio 4’s Poetry Season and Team GB’s 10th Anniversary, and has written and presented his own podcast series with the British Library called All About Sound. In 2023, he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London.
