From economic growth to environmental conservation, our speakers shared transformative insights that will fuel Delegates and Partners journey to the 2024 Summit in Montréal.
On the 30 August 2024, 50 One Young World guests came together and here are some key takeaways:
Jennette Modise, Absa Chief People Officer set the tone for the event with an encouraging message of leadership and purpose. She emphasized the importance of young leaders stepping up to the challenges of today’s world, stating, “At Absa, we believe in the power of young people to shape the future. Leadership is about impact, and we are committed to creating opportunities that empower the next generation to make a difference.” She also highlighted Absa’s commitment to sustainability, adding, “Between 2019 and 2023, Absa invested over R1.49 billion in social impact initiatives, positively affecting over 1.25 million people. This event and our partnership with One Young World are part of our broader mission to foster sustainable growth and inclusivity across the continent.”
The event hosted a panel discussion on the plenary challenges in a Southern Africa context expertly moderated by Busie Sekgonetso, Absa Senior Human Capital Partner and One Young World Ambassador; the panel discussion touched on the topics of Indigenous Rights, Climate and Ecological Crises, Health Equity, Financial Inclusion & Peace within a Southern African context amd included:

The Send Off event wrapped up with One Young World Ambassadors: Promise Mabena and Joys from Absa who featured their highlights and lessons from attending the Manchester Summit in 2022
