One Young World is proud to announce that it has been awarded ISO 20121:2012 certification, an international standard governing sustainable event management created by the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
Sustainability is a top priority at One Young World and the organisation is committed to playing its part in delivering on the Paris Agreement as rapidly as possible. As a result, One Young World has been working towards achieving ISO 20121:2012 certification to ensure that sustainability is truly embedded into all levels of Summit preparation and management.
Between August - November 2021, One Young World's event management system and Summit processes were independently assessed by the British Standards Institute (BSI), the UK's National Standards Body. One Young World was subsequently awarded the ISO 20121 certification, which covers all aspects of the annual One Young World Summit.
ISO 20121:2012 specifies requirements for an event sustainability management system and provides guidance on conforming to those requirements. The standard requires organisations to demonstrate consideration within its management system to all key financial, economic, social and environmental issues relevant to its operations. The international version of ISO 20121 was pioneered by the London 2012 Olympic Games, which was a catalyst for its development.
One Young World is committed to the continuous improvement of its sustainability processes and will be assessing progress on an annual basis. Stakeholders from all levels will be made aware of sustainability initiatives throughout the Summit and will be actively encouraged to help One Young World achieve its sustainability goals.
Kate Robertson, Co-Founder of One Young World says:
One Young World is committed to reducing its impact on the local environments in which it operates and the global environment in whole, recognising that we have a duty of care and responsibility in bettering the future of our planet. Year on year, we will continue to improve our activities, learn from our shortcomings and ensure we are setting a standard for the rest of our industry.
A special thank you to the One Young World Sustainability Taskforce:
