In the midst of the refugee crisis, One Young World Counsellor Bob Geldof has pledged his support for the thousands of refugees who are fleeing conflict zones.
The musician and activist has offered to give four families shelter in his homes in Kent and London.
"I'm prepared- I'm lucky, I've a place in Kent and a flat in London- me and (partner) Jeanne would be prepared to take three families immediately in our place in Kent and a family in our flat in London, immediately, and put them up until such time as they can get going and get a purchase on their future," he said during an interview on Irish Radio.
Geldof also points to the importance of the issue on political affairs: "We are in a moment currently now that will be discussed and impacted on in 300 years time."
Bob Geldof is a One Young World Counsellor who attended One Young World Summits in London, Zurich, Pittsburgh, Johannesburg and Dublin. He will also attend the upcoming Summit in Bangkok.
One Young World focuses largely on issues relating to migration. At the upcoming One Young World Summit in Bangkok, the Human Rights Plenary Session will focus on issues of migration. With the Middle East and North Africa experiencing one of the most serious refugee crises in generations, there needs to be more discussion and action surrounding the safeguarding of refugees.
74% of the One Young World community said governments should do more to create the social and economic conditions that discourage migrants from taking risks to migrate with a further 71% seeing the international community as not doing enough to protect asylum seekers.
