Join us Sunday March 20th for the annual One Young World University of Bath Caucus. The hybrid Caucus will consist of different sessions and workshops around this years key themes: Reducing Inequalities, Zero Poverty and Climate Action.
About the Caucus
OYW Bath is a one day conference convening leaders who are working to accelerate social impact and attaining SDGs.
The in person event will consist of different sessions around key themes and smaller workshops about related sub-themes. The chosen 2022 themes include Reducing Inequalities, Zero Poverty and Climate Action. The sub-themes will tackle reducing gender and race inequalities, impact through innovation, leveraging technology to alleviate poverty in developing economies and ocean protection to mention a few. In addition to the different sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to network at lunchtime and at the end of the day with speakers and industry professionals. This event is sponsored by Change 1s Life, Niyo Enterprise and Varyah LTD.
The online event will consist of two workshops facilitated by inspirational leaders making positive impacts in our society.
The price of the event works as a deposit. While it costs £5.98 you will be refunded £5 pounds if you attend the event.

Tina Kimfumu
Assistant Manager at KPMG
PhD Researcher at University of Bath
Tina Kimfumu is an award-winning philanthropist focused on up-skilling the next generation of technology leaders. While at KPMG as a Learning Delivery Advisor for the UK Government, Tina formed strategic alliances with grassroots charities and organisations that support black communities to relieve them from income poverty and support the provision education and employment opportunities. Awarded Woman of the Year 2021 in Technology, Tina led the African and Caribbean Network’s Corporate Social Responsibility team at KPMG. This national group fundraised, planned, and delivered workshops and events, including mentoring programmes such as the Pushing LimITs programme for black women looking to enter the Technology profession. Tina holds a BSc in Business Management with Human Resource Management and an MA in International Management with Marketing. She has recently started her PhD at the University of Bath, exploring how technology changes work and impacts employees in the digital age.
Arielle Salvary
Masters Student at University of Bath
Co-Founder or Sunday Market Network
Arielle Salvary is a University of Bath student from Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Development with Economics. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of the West Indies and graduated with a bachelor’s in International Relations with a Minor in Economics (Honorus). In 2020, Arielle’s passion for youth participation in politics and current affairs led her to Co-Found an organisation in Trinidad and Tobago known as Sunday Market Network. Sunday Market represents an online space where T&T’s youth can freely share and gain knowledge on what is happening within the country as well as participate in discussions with experts during live interviews that are hosted by the space.

Nyasha Daley
Director at Varyah
Nyasha Daley is a multi-passionate entrepreneur, communications specialist, public speaker, charity Trustee and dynamic Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion consultant. She is also a multi-disciplinary artist, whose creative practices include poetry/spoken word, singing, song-writing and visual digital arts. She is intensely passionate and highly curious about people and prose. Much of her work involves the exploration of identity, including her own.
Oyinkansola Adebayo
Founder and CEO of Niyo Enterprise
Oyinkansola Adebayo is an award-winning CEO who runs Niyo enterprise, a company that specializes in using technology to economically empower black women. This organisation currently has two brands: Niyo Hair and Beauty and Niyo Network. Niyo Hair and Beauty is a technology driven mobile afro hair and beauty service that services 400 clients across the midlands whilst economically empowering hairstylists. Niyo Network exists to empower black women to pursue their business ideas and career aspirations through technology driven bootcamps. Oyin holds a MSc in Development Economics and a BA in Business Management & Economics.
Emily Helsby
Board Director at Amnesty International UK
Emily Helsby is Bath Alumni and graduated with first-class honours in Politics and International Relations BSc in 2020. Emily’s expertise in race equality and passion for human rights has led her to be appointed as a Board Director for Amnesty International UK. Emily’s full-time occupation is in High Value Partnerships at The Children's Society. She previously worked in Policy and Practice at the Race Equality Foundation and finds joy in helping people of marginalised identities feel heard and represented
Horatio Georgestone
Founder of YDWC
Horatio is the Founder of YDWC; a leading Diversity & Inclusion Advisory service that helps world-leading organisations to create more inclusive workplaces (partners include EY, RBS Group and the Houses of Parliament). Horatio was listed as one of the top 30 Black British influencers by PWC in 2019. He graduated from Aston University with a Bachelor’s degree in Politics with International Relations before graduating from University College London with a Master’s degree in Global Governance and Ethics.
Session 2 - SDG 2: Zero Poverty
Edmilson Angelo
Founder and Director of Change 1's Life
Edmilson is the Founder and Director of Change 1’s Life CIO, an international charity established in 2014 working on the fields of education, energy, health, and environment protection in Sub-Saharan Africa since 2014. As the leader of one of the most emerging and dynamic youth-led causes in Africa, Edmilson’s work has in the past been recognised by many distinguished institutions such as UN under Kofi Annan and Akon Lighting Africa under the Give1Project. At 29, Edmilson holds a bachelor’s in politics and International Relations from the University of Westminster and a Masters in African Studies from the University of Oxford. Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in International Development at the distinguished Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex), Edmilson is also a visiting tutor and Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London and St.Mary’s University of London. He has consulted for a range of national and international public and private bodies, especially within the diplomatic sphere of Angola, and is also an analyst and columnist of African Politics at BBC News. On top of that Edmilson is an OYW Ambassador since 2018.
Lara Oyedele
Chartered Institute of Housing
Lara Oyedele is a social entrepreneur, property developer and campaigner for affordable housing who is Vice President of the Chartered Institute of Housing. She is passionate about eliminating homelessness and promoting diversity in leadership. A former journalist, she has over 30 years’ experience working in the social housing sector. An Ex-Housing Association CEO, Lara was founding Chair and creative force behind, BMENational, the coalition promoting ethnic minority housing associations in England. Lara is chair of a homelessness charity, Hope Housing and a Non-Exec Director of Housing 21. She runs training company Black on Board which aims to increase diverse representation on boards, and is also developing an affordable housing company.
Ben Carpenter
Founder of Grassroot Communities
Ben Carpenter is a qualified youth and community worker with over 15 years practical experience of working across South, Central and East Bristol. In 2015, he completed the yearlong Shift Bristol practical sustainability course. By 2017 he founded Grassroot Communities based on rising levels of deprivation and limited to no youth and community provision in South Bristol. Recently he has been made a City Fellow of University of Bristol’s School of Education.
Waradas Thiyagaraja
Director at Community Welfare and Development Fund, Sri Lanka
Thiyagaraja Waradas is a human rights activist engaged with social, economic and gender justice movement in Sri Lanka and currently reading for a PhD at the department of social and policy sciences of the University of Bath as a Commonwealth Scholar. He has been instrumental in strengthening regulations against Illegal industrial fishing by foreign vessels in Sri Lanka for the protection of livelihood of 30,000 traditional fishing families in the war affected provinces, for which he was presented with the Akin Olaware Award by the Institute of Mediators Beyond Borders in 2018. His works continue to advance the welfare and development of marginalized groups in Sri Lanka through his organization – Community Welfare and Development Fund.
Session 3 - SDG 13: Climate Action
Zoe Paumelle
University of Bath Students Union Activities Officer
Zoe Paumelle has always had an interest in sustainability and climate action, recently she was elected as the Activities Officer at the Student Union at Bath University. Sustainability is an integral part of the role. She have most recently successfully lobbied the university to adopt Ecosia as the default search engine browser and have implemented a sustainability award for all student leaders at the University.
Peter Phelps
Head of Climate Action at University of Bath
Peter is the Climate Action Project Lead at the University of Bath. He has worked at the University for 15 years, previously as Energy & Environment Manager, leading a small team that has cut energy bills by over £1.5m annually and substantially reduced carbon emissions despite significant growth. He has recently been appointed to lead a new team within the Vice-Chancellor’s Office to implement the new ‘whole institution’ Climate Action strategy.
Rob Godfrey
Co-founder of Treeconomy
As Co-Founder at greentech start-up Treeconomy, Rob leads the company’s efforts to scale responsible reforestation and close the “nature funding gap”. Rob’s background is in organisational sustainability, ecology, forestry and climate change research. He holds an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London. In addition to being a OYW Ambassador, Rob was a Fulbright Killam Fellow in Environmental Resource Management at the University of Washington and is a Global Sustainability Fellow. An unabashed nature-lover, Rob has dedicated his career to combating climate change and restoring ecosystems. You can find him outside, staring at trees.
Lizzie Coney
Climate Activist and Filmmaker, ActNow Film
Lizzie Coney has a degree in Biology from York, and Masters in Wildlife Filmmaking from UWE, Bristol. Currently, she is working in post production, for the television industry. She is interested in using the power of visual media, such as tv and film, to convey information amount the climate crisis and engage people in sustainable practice. Lizzy have helped create a short film called ActNow for COP26 and created my own film about a sustainable urban goat farming project in Bristol.
