Bernard Kouchner worked as a gastroenterologist at Hopital Cochin in Paris from 1975 to 1987. He was the co-founder and President of NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres and Honorary President of NGO Medecins du Monde.

He is a Professor of the Health and Development Chair at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers engineering school and Lecturer at Harvard School of Public Health. Koucher was a special representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Kosovo, from 1999 to 2001. He has carried out Humanitarian aid missions to the victims of most major natural and industrial disasters and political crises, since 1968.  

Koucher was elected office Member of the European Parliament. Ministerial offices French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and was Minister of Health from 2007 to 2010.

He is the President of the Board of Directors of the ESTHER program: twinning hospitals in Europe with counterparts in the developing world, President and founder of BK Consultants and BK Conseil, Member of the  Board of Directors of PlaNet Finance, Member of the Honorary Committee of the Children Action foundation, Director of the International Women's Health Coalition and the Founding member of the humanitarian organization: "La chaene de l’espoir."
